Why do animals hide? Why do they have such different teeth? Why are thumbs so important for gorillas? Your students will answer all of these questions and more as they learn about the amazing ways that animals adapt to their environments. Your students will leave this lesson excited to learn more about the wonderful ways that animals are perfectly suited to their environments.

There are all kinds of different ecosystems in the world, and many of them occur in Santa Barbara! In this exciting workshop, students will be introduced to the major biomes of the world, and the animals that live there. Students will be excited to learn about the amazing diversity that is found in Santa Barbara!
Animal Appetites California State Standards Connection: Life Sciences Standard 2 (b) Students know producers and consumers are related in food chains and food webs and may compete with each other for resources in an ecosystem. What's for dinner? If you're a wild animal, that depends on a lot of things, including the other animals around you! In this class, your students will create their own food web and see how it helps them to understand the relationships between different animals in an ecosystem. They will leave excited to learn more about animal diets and the ways that animals depend on each other!

Just like we all count on each other, so do animals in the wild! Animals have all kinds of relationships that help them to survive, and this class will introduce students to some of the most important kinds of relationships, including predator/prey and symbiosis. Your students will be excited to learn about the ways that animals help each other out in the wild! Your students will answer all of these questions and more as they tour the zoo with an experienced guide, learning about the amazing ways that our zoo animals adapt to their environments. Your students will be excited to learn about more the amazing ways that animals adapt. Animal Encounters can be arranged for children of any age, and give your students a chance to get up close and personal with one of our zoo's totally safe education animals. A zoo educator will bring out an animal from our collection and talk to your students about it. Depending on the animal you choose and the age of your students, they may even be able to touch! You can work with one of our zoo educators to choose an animal that will best emphasize your curriculum and will be the most exciting for your students. Available animals include a wide variety of birds, reptiles, amphibians, as well as a few small mammals from our collection. The Santa Barbara Zoo's famous Zoo Snoozes are now available for school groups. These overnight adventures provide the experience of a lifetime for your students as our experienced Zoo Snooze educators lead students through a variety of exciting and educational activities throughout the night.
