Step 1: Apply Online

Go to Teen Volunteer Application.

Step 2: Sign Up for Orientation

Once we receive and process your application, you will receive an email with instructions on how you can sign up for a new volunteer orientation. You will need to complete this step before moving on to any volunteer position (with the exception of Boo at the Zoo and Zoo-to-Do).

Step 3: Ambassador, Long-Term Volunteer, or CIT?

Our long-term volunteers commit to completing extensive training and providing at least 50 hours of service each year. There is a wide variety of adult and teen opportunties available to long-term volunteers. Besides the fun and pleasure of giving back, our volunteers receive a wide variety of benefits.

There is a one-time fee of $80 which covers your training and uniform. Financial assistance is available for volunteers in financial hardship.

Teen volunteers just wanting to complete one summer of volunteering can participate in our Counselor-in-Training (CIT) program. These teens will complete training and help with at least three weeks of our award winning summer camp. The fee for participating in this program is $69 each summer. Year-round teen volunteers can also participate in this program for no additional fee.

Not sure you are ready for a big commitment? No problem! Our ambassador volunteers work on a variety of special events, projects, and clerical work. There is no further training for these positions beyond the orientation and no yearly time commitment.

Step 4: Training

You will need to complete a series of classes at the Zoo on topics such as natural history, conservation, and education. The good news is that you can complete most of these classes in any order that works for you! This training system will be explained in the new volunteer orientation.
