Name:  Bar-headed Goose

Range:
Central Asia, migrating southward to India for the winter.

Habitat:
Lakes and marshes.

Description:
Identifying characteristic is two black bars across the back of the head, medium-sized and slender.

Adaptations/Habitat:
The bar-headed goose is a sociable bird living in groups and in large colonies. It is only during the mating season that geese seek solitude. Each pair isolates itself and builds a large nest. All geese are migratory. In autumn they gather in flocks and head towards warmer climates for the winter. They fly in a V formation. They fly fast and very high. The bar-headed goose regularly clears the highest peaks of the Himalayas in the course of its migrations. They are excellent swimmers and can walk well on land.
