Zoo Careers
Ideal for: 7th-12th grade
Theme: From zookeepers to researchers, it takes a variety of people to run the Zoo.

Ever wondered what it would be like to work at the Zoo? This class gives students the inside scoop on zoo careers, from cooks to keepers! You will learn all about the daily responsibilities of zoo keepers and the education it takes to become a member of the Zoo team. This class will give students a thorough understanding of what it takes to run a busy zoo, and why a strong education is important.

Guided Tours

Conservation, the Zoo, and You
Ideal for: 7th-12th grade
Theme: Both zoos and individuals play a vital role in species and habitat conservation.

What is the Zoo doing to help endangered species? What can you and your students do to help? This tour introduces students to the conservation efforts of the Zoo staff and the small things that students can do every day to help. Your students will leave this tour ready to do their part for conservation efforts in Santa Barbara and around the world.

Animal Encounters

Animal Encounters can be arranged for children of any age, and give your students a chance to get up close and personal with one of our Zoo's totally safe education animals. A Zoo Educator will bring out an animal from our collection and talk to your students about it. Depending on the animal you choose and the age of your students, they may even be able to touch! You can work with one of our Zoo Educators to choose an animal that will best emphasize your curriculum and will be the most exciting for your students. Available animals include a wide variety of birds, reptiles, amphibians, as well as a few small mammals from our collection.

School Snoozes

The Santa Barbara Zoo's famous Zoo Snoozes are now available for school groups. These overnight adventures provide the experience of a lifetime for your students as our experienced Zoo Snooze educators lead students through a variety of exciting and educational activities throughout the night.
