Nurture Local Wildlife: Become a Foster Feeder! |
|
What is a Foster Feeder?
A Foster Feeder is a very special person who takes their favorite Zoo
animal "under their wing," and sponsors its care for a year. You can
maintain your Foster Feeder Sponsorship for as long as you like by paying
annual dues. the monies generated by the Foster Feeder program are used
to offset the Zoo's animal food costs.
Caring for Animals and their Future
what the Santa Barbara Zoo is all about. The Zoo is a home
to many rare and endangered species, where our dedicated staff provides
the best possible food and care for our animals. These animals need
protection to survive as their natural habitats are rapidly disappearing.
More than 500 animals from around the world call the Santa Barbara Zoo
home. With that many mouths to feed, the Zoo annual food bill is more
than $150,000! You can help feed the animals at the Zoo by participating
in the Foster Feeder program.

The Gift that Gives Twice
Foster Feeder Sponsorships make unforgettable gifts for birthdays,
graduations, holidays, anniversaries, or any day! A Foster Feeder gift
shows how much you care about your friend and about the natural world.
Your gift recipient will enjoy being a Foster Feeder and you will enjoy
the satisfaction that comes from supporting the Zoo.
Double Your Support!
If your employer has a matching gifts program, you may be able to double
your gift. Contact your human resources department for a matching gift
form to include with your contribution.
Keep in Mind
Due to their popularity, many animals have more than one sponsor. Also, because Zoo animals are living creatures, they are subject
to illness or death, or they may be moved from the Zoo or taken off
exhibit. If this happens, the remainder of your sponsorship will be
transferred to another animal.
Premier Sponsorships
If you're ready for a bigger commitment, Premier Sponsorships are
available for many of the animals in the Zoo's collection; you can sponsor
a specific animal such as "Sujatha," the Asian elephant or "Goma," the
western lowland gorilla. Premier Sponsorships include a special
"behind-the-scenes" encounter and may also include naming privileges.
Premier Sponsorships cost $5,000 per year and are a great way to recognize
an individual or business as they feature a brass plaque at the chosen
animal's exhibit. Please contact the Development Office at (805) 962-5339
for more information.
Animal Naming Opportunities
Imagine if you were able name a monkey, penguin, or other animal at the Zoo, and tell all your friends and family that you named it? Everyone- the Zoo staff, visitors, even the media, would refer to the animal by the name you chose. Well, at the Santa Barbara Zoo that is entirely possible!
Many of the Zoo’s animals have been named by generous donors; for example, Docha the lion, Pee-Gloo the penguin, and Raylee the meerkat. These are just some of the animals that have been given names by generous donors. But there are many more animals that have yet to be named including two new Goeldi’s monkeys and four Humboldt penguins!
A donation of $10,000 is required to name an animal. A brass plaque will be mounted at the animal’s exhibit, which displays both the animal’s name and your name. You also become a Premier Foster Feeder: benefits include a Foster Feeder certificate, lunch with your animal’s keeper, and a behind the-scenes tour of the Zoo. The name you give your animal is permanent, and you may renew your Foster Feeder sponsorship annually for a donation of $5,000 to retain the plaque at the exhibit site.
Your donation to the Foster Feeder Fund will be applied to the Zoo’s large animal food bill, which tops $150,000 every year! Of course, your donation is 100% tax-deductible.
For more information, or to sign up for an Animal Naming Opportunity, please contact Pieter van Meeuwen, Assistant Director of Development, at (805) 962-5339, ext. 18.
