Administrative/Clerical

Volunteers perform a variety of office duties including data entry, filing, copying, and preparing mailings. Requirements: Experience working in an office environment is preferred and attention to detail and accuracy are important. Administrative volunteers work on flexible schedules with on-the-job training.

Ambassador

Volunteers staff a variety of positions in support of day and evening special events. Exceptional customer service skills are a must. Experience with bartending, food service, or face painting desirable for many events. Ambassadors are scheduled based on the needs of the events and receive on-the-job training for most positions.

Animal Care

Volunteers perform duties as required for the care and maintenance of Zoo exhibits and the feeding of the animals. Volunteers with previous experience in a veterinary clinic may work in the Zoo hospital. Requirements: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks repeatedly for long periods of time required. Animal Care Aides must be available to volunteer at least one half day per week. Animal Care Aides are required to have a TB test on an annual basis and to provide the Volunteer Coordinator with documentation of the results of this test.

Animal Handler

Volunteers with six or more months volunteering regularly can choose to train to take out education animals for the public. Requirements: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks repeatedly for long periods of time required. Volunteers must be available to take out education animals at least once every other week. Volunteers must attend a refresher course on an annual basis. Volunteers are required to have a TB test on an annual basis and to provide the Volunteer Coordinator with documentation of the results of this test.

Groundskeeping

Volunteers perform duties as required for the care and maintenance of Zoo grounds, such as weeding and litter removal. Requirements: Ability to perform work outside, bending repeatedly and working on one's knees is necessary. Ability to identify different plants is desirable. Groundskeeping volunteers work on flexible schedules with on-the-job training.

Public Educators

Volunteers act as educational interpreters during the day and at evening events, lead tours, assist with children's programs and assist with special events. Requirements: Strong public speaking and exceptional customer service skills are essential. Volunteers must be available to volunteer at least one day per month. Volunteers are required to have a TB test on annual basis and to provide the Volunteer Coordinator with documentation of the results of this test.
